i’d thought that this was the world in which i belonged

when i was a little girl,
throwing tantrums,
grandma would sing to pacify me
her age-old songs would comfort me
during those summer afternoons
and i think the song goes like this:
overcast sky
the rain is about to fall
overcast sky
overcastovercast sky
overcast…

having grown up, with a life of my own,
i’ve new songs and new ideals
in moments of recklessness
i’d forgotten all about this song:
overcast sky
the rain is about to fall

i fell in love with a man
with whom i was reckless and readily gave my all
i’d thought that this was the world in which i belonged
we pushed and shoved, only to end up
being misunderstood and cheated of our feelings
is there really always brokenness
lurking in the world of adults’?

i seem to end up at crossroads every day
i miss the little blessings
in the innocence from my childhood
love always makes us cry,
always leaves us feeling inadequate
i’m all alone when i look up at the vast sky
but see nothing clearly.

i thought about that song again
when the sky was overcast
and suddenly wished for the rain
to quickly fall in peaceful drops
i now see that grandma had long told me this
in the age-old song she’d used to sing
that you have to keep walking even when it rains
i believe that this storm will someday subside

i really wish i could go on home right nowovercast sky

you have seen countless beautiful scenery
you have seen countless beautiful women
you’re the shadow in every dot in the world map
you have perfected evening herbs
you have treaded the snow in beijing
you compile your favourite lines from all your books
but don’t know the reason why you love me
don’t know which of my expressions you admire the most
don’t know in which situations i have ever touched your heart
don’t know the reason why you left me

you’ve accumulated countless travel miles
you thoughtfully select travel souvenirs
you’ve plotted out all the days of fine weather on the world map
you appreciate the passion in offshore islands
you bury your memories in turkey
you reminisce about all the beautifully unrealistic moments in movies
but don’t know the reason why you love me

don’t know which of my expressions you admire the most
don’t know in which situations i have ever touched your heart
don’t know the meaning behind your travels

you force yourself to say that the meaning behind your travels
is caused by all the love letters i have sent you
you’d decided to leave me
that was the meaning behind your travels.

orange jasmine – jay chou
七里香 - 周杰伦‘how talkative the sparrow by the window is,’
it feels like summer when you say that.
the pencil in my hand paces the paper
i only need a few words to describe what you mean to me.
the taste of the mackerel
is something that both you and the cat want to know
and hence the scent of first love is so easily recalled
the warmth of the sun
was just like freshly picked strawberries
you’d said you couldn’t bear to consume such a feeling

the rain fell all night
like my love in overflowing streams
the piles of fallen leaves in the balcony are thick
like my desire and thoughts
there isn’t enough justification
to cool down my warm passion
your name appears on every page of my poetry

flutter like the beautiful chapters in a poem
i make sure that the last line in my poem
declares my everlasting love for you
you’re the only thing i want to know all about

the packed paddyfield has delivered the promise
of a bountiful season
and your cheeks are red as
the newly ripened tomatoes in the field
out of the blue you remark that
the orange jasmine flower has a very lovely name
but all i want to do in this moment
is to kiss your stubborn lips
